I recently started with Palouse Land Trust, and I am thrilled to spend my summer with this wonderful organization! I just finished my sophomore year at the University of Idaho, majoring in Conservation Biology with a minor in Rangeland Management. I am also pursuing two certificates through the college in Restoration Ecology and Natural Resources Management. College has been a new and exciting experience here in Moscow, and I have enjoyed it immensely! I heard about this internship through a hiring event at the university and I knew it would bring me valuable experience to help me reach my future career goals.
I grew up in southern Idaho, surrounded by nature and the outdoors. I spent my free time camping, kayaking, snowmobiling, and swimming in every season. This fostered my love for the outdoors and my family's love for remote areas like Copper Basin and Independence Lakes. These experiences led me to the strong programs in natural resources at the University of Idaho, bringing me closer to my dream of working in nature, doing conservation work, and habitat restoration.
My course studies at the university have turned these dreams into reality, giving me a great understanding of the world around us and how I can make an impact through hard work and dedication to the natural world. I am currently working with a great team of students for the College of Natural Resources Ambassador Team, recruiting and fostering new students into the world of natural resources. It is a rewarding experience to meet students from all over the country and show them how they can find careers that foster their love for sustainability and the outdoors by pursuing higher education.
I am so excited about this opportunity and the time I will spend with Palouse Land Trust this summer, nurturing my education about the world of conservation. Working for Palouse Land Trust will bring me closer to my future goals in conservation and restoration management. I hope to work with riparian and rangeland systems, but I am always excited to learn and embrace new opportunities, even if they are challenging. Starting here has been a great experience, and I look forward to learning more and becoming more integrated into the land trust community here in Moscow.
