Asa “Ace” Clark
Ace grew up on a family farm just north of Pullman. He attended WSU and graduated with a degree in geology, then worked for a mineral exploration company for a number of years.
In 1982 he returned to the family farm from which he retired in 2019. Ace lives on the family farm with his wife Frances and has three grown children and two grandchildren.
“I am a strong believer in land conservation, knowing that in a modern society that means keeping as much soil on our farms as possible, having some land undisturbed (unfortunately on the Palouse that is not many acres), limiting the expansion of our communities into rural areas (up not out), and that our natural resources should not be squandered. I also appreciate the agricultural challenges of being both economically and environmentally sustainable with the anticipation that achieving this balance will always be problematic.
As a farmer, I believe that it behooves us to be good neighbors with our city citizens and to share some of our open spaces with them when possible. I am an advocate for the area’s bike trails and would like to see them expanded. The Palouse has many natural treasures and I believe that these should be conserved and often can be shared in low impact ways. It is my hope that by sharing, others may come to appreciate the great beauty of the Palouse and that by forging a partnership between rural and urban people, future generations may appreciate them too. “
