June 2022: Judy’s Trail was officially opened - get out and explore!

Thanks to amazing community volunteers, board members and AmeriCorps 2021 Team Member Emma Sondker, ground has been broken on a new recreational and educational public nature trail on the Neuman conservation easement along Big Meadow Creek in Troy, ID. Now we have a beautiful trail that can be enjoyed by all!

When landowner Judy LaLonde came to the Land Trust in 2008 to permanently protect her property just outside the city limits of Troy, Idaho, she had a dream. One day, she would be able to welcome students, friends, and the public onto the land to learn, explore, and revel in the wonder of nature. In June 2022, Palouse Land Trust, Idaho Firewise, and volunteers rallied to help bring her vision into focus.

With the help of hard-working volunteers, the entire 1.2 mile loop trail was roughed-in over the course of three hot and dry work parties in early July. Volunteers cleared brush, cut in trail surface, and helped remove vegetation to create the 3-foot wide walking trail. Later that year, benches, interpretive and educational signage were installed, sharing the many special aspects of the property. Two “outdoor classroom” sites were selected that will offer students ample space and access to the creek and forested areas for study, research, and experiments.
