On Saturday, June 13, 2015, we hosted a day long celebration at Idler's Rest Nature Preserve. While the event is now over, you are invited to continue visiting the preserve throughout the year.

Scheduled Activities
All activities, except the Yoga in Nature session are free.

9:00-11:30am     
National Trails Day Work Party

  Co-sponsored by the Palouse Environmental Sustainability Coalition. If you'd like to help maintain the trails and improve the forest health, RSVP and we will be sure to have enough tools and a picnic lunch available for you. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring a pair of gloves.


12:30 - 1:00pm
 Welcome, Storytelling and Birthday Cake!

  Join us in celebrating Idler's Rest and 20 years of conservation. We'll have a birthday cake, a display and stories about the history of Idler's Rest.


1:00 - 2:00pm
 Playing in Nature

  Kids love to play in nature. Not only is it tons of fun but it's good for them too. In this fun activity, we'll help kids learn how to have responsible forest adventures. They'll learn the Leave No Trace techniques of building forts, playing in creeks, and looking for animals. Kids should wear comfy play clothes and arrive early to sign up at 12:30 as space will be limited. Kids should also be accompanied by an adult.


2:30 - 3:30pm
Guided Nature Walks


Join a naturalist who will take you on a guided tour of the preserve. We'll have a wildflower/plant walk, a birdwatching walk (bring binoculars), and possibly an insect search as well.


3:00 - 4:00pm
Yoga in Nature - with Sarah Brooker from Nourish Yoga


The forest is a perfect place to do some peaceful yoga. The class, offered by Sarah is only $5, payable to her directly. All skill levels are welcome. Bring your yoga mat!


3:30 - 4:30pm Guided Nature walks

Self Guided Activities
available from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Nature Crafts                          
Your kids can get creative at our nature craft table. We will provide a variety of different materials for kids to create art inspired by nature that they will take home.

Scavenger Hunts


Choose from two different scavenger hunts to do on your hike through the Preserve. They will help you with your observation skills and get you looking closer at the natural world around you.

Poet-Tree


Take a seat along the upper loop trail, write a poem inspired by your visit, and hang it on our Poet-Tree for other hikers to enjoy.

Self-Guided Hikes

Enjoy a hike on your own and use our trail guide to point out interesting stops along the trail.
